Every strong foundation has a story. Ours begins long before Gainwell Engineering was formed—rooted in over 140 years of global mining expertise.

From the early days of underground coal mining, when DBT was established in 1880, to becoming one of the most respected names in the industry, this legacy has always been about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible beneath the surface.

Over time, this expertise evolved and expanded. The acquisition of DBT by Bucyrus brought together deep mining knowledge with large-scale engineering capability. This journey reached a defining milestone when Caterpillar brought this legacy under its fold—strengthening a global ecosystem of mining excellence.

It is on this powerful foundation that Gainwell began its own journey.

In 2014, we stepped into underground coal mining operations at Jhanjra—marking the beginning of a new chapter built on operational discipline and learning from the best in the world. What followed was a natural progression: a deeper commitment to manufacturing, innovation, and self-reliance.

By 2017, our collaboration with Caterpillar through an IP licensing agreement enabled us to begin manufacturing Highwall Miners in India—bringing advanced global technology closer to home. This momentum continued as we expanded into Room & Pillar equipment, leading to the formation of Gainwell Engineering in 2021.

Our manufacturing philosophy is rooted in engineering ownership, precision, and a deep understanding of India's evolving mining landscape. As mining operations scale and grow more complex, the need for equipment that is purpose-built for India's unique geological conditions has never been greater. In response, we design, engineer, and manufacture advanced mining solutions like Highwall Miner, continuous miners, Roof Bolters, feeder breaker and Multi utility vehicles—entirely in India, moving beyond just assembly of parts and components, in a true demonstration of indigenous capability.

This approach is strengthened by the integration of digital technologies that enhance performance, reliability, safety and sustainability. Real-time monitoring, predictive diagnostics, and intelligent systems are embedded into our equipment, enabling higher availability, reduced downtime, and more efficient operations.
